Most of us would agree to be ethical, honorable, faithful, charitable, just, creditable, noble, trustworthy, and moral are all qualities of someone with good character. Each of these words are considered synonyms of the word RIGHTEOUS.
The truth is many of the terms we consider “religious” are just verbs. How many of you remember from English class what a verb is? Yes, a verb is simply a word used to describe an action, state, or occurrence.
Righteousness is an action. It is what you do and how you live. Could we then conclude that RIGHTEOUSNESS is RIGHT LIVING, and if so, what is RIGHT? As a believer in Christ our measuring rod for RIGHTNESS is the Word of God.
The amplified (AMP) version of 2 Timothy 3:16 tells us that “All Scripture is God-breathed [given by divine inspiration] and is profitable for instruction, for conviction [of sin], for correction [of error and restoration to obedience], for training in righteousness [learning to live in conformity to God’s will, both publicly and privately—behaving honorably with personal integrity and moral courage]; 17 so that the [a]man of God may be complete and proficient, outfitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
The principles, life choices and lifestyles we as believers choose should be based on God’s Word. We find ourselves struggling with what we believe to be true or false. Finding that our desires and wants, our preferences and comforts tend to put us in opposition to God’s Word. Even when we want to and earnest try to, we fall short.
Did you know that we have a Helper? One of the functions of the Holy Spirit is to empower us to live RIGHTEOUSLY, according to the Word of God. RIGHT LIVING is POSSIBLE!
Are there areas in your life that are not aligning with God’s Word? Are you walking under a cloud of shame and regret? Do you earnestly want to live right, but keep faltering? Good news! Help us just a prayer away.
Let's Pray
Heavenly Father, thank you for your Holy Spirit that empowers us to live a RIGHTEOUS life. Thank you that you have given us everything we need, including help to do what seems impossible for us. I ask today that you help me abound in your character. I want to live a life that glorifies you. Today I proclaim that I will be ethical, honorable, faithful, charitable, just, creditable, noble, trustworthy, and live according to your Word. I rest now in your grace. In Jesus Name Amen.
